Mr. Kamal Bahadur BK is resident of Kotgaun of Chyanam VDC. He is 18 years old. His mother passed away two years ago, so his father has to make a living for his four children. As the oldest child, Kamal started to work hard to support his family. The hardship made him active and he started to participate in SAHAS Nepal activities in the village. He joined a group and learned about the strength of groups to develop themselves and community. The group members selected him to take part in a vocational training on shoe making, organized by SAHAS Nepal.

After being selected, he was quite nervous and did not known what to do. But his curiosity to learn new skills made him determined to take part in the training. During the training he made many friends and he learned other things in addition to technical skills, he added.

Upon completion of the three month training, Mr. BK received a leather sewing machine, leather and other accessories to translate his acquired skill into practice. Mr. BK started his show manufacturing and repairing centre in his village and got popularity in the area within short time. He has made 200 pairs of shoes and sold gents shoes at a rate of NRs 400.00 and ladies shoes at a rate of Rs. 300.00. From shoes making and repair, he has already earned Rs 13,100.00 and continuing his work. He is very happy with the training and his profession at this moment but additional supports like credit without interest would be relevant to expand the business, too, he added.
