19th ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF SAHAS NEPAL

 "Year of Organizational Strengthened"

19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of SAHAS Nepal has been concluded on 18th September 2014 at hotel Greenwich Village in Lalitpur. The event was chaired by Ms. Sati Devi Shrestha, the chairperson of the organization. The event was participatory inaugurated by lighting the candle by Chief Guest Dr. Bimala Rai Poudyal an honorable Member of National Planning Commission and followed by other members. The AGM has reviewed its programme activities and set the future plan of action with its executive board, general members, and staff members representing its various programmes and projects. In total, 35 participants attended the meeting which includes members and staffs.

Addressing the inaugural session of the AGM, Dr. Surendra Shrestha, Member Secretary of SAHAS Nepal welcomed all the members and participants and presented a brief overview on the organization annual activities. He also shared the forthcoming action of SAHAS Nepal and highlighted on the diverse approach of SAHAS Nepal. Dr. Shrestha also emphasize on the developing of new strategies to empower and capacitate the younger and older staffs. He also stresses on the creating of fruitful employment opportunities to retain the youth of the country and prevent from brain-drain.

Dr. Bimala Rai Poudyal an honorable Member of National Planning Commission, expressed her happiness and thankfulness for inviting as a chief guest in the AGM. She shared her experience and acknowledges her remarks on the well achievement of SAHAS Nepal within this journey of organization. She also put forward that she is highly impressed by the working approach of SAHAS Nepal and mainstreaming of Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) in SAHAS program and projects. She expressed her best wishes to organization as well as every staff and member of the organization for better development of the organization.

The session is divided into two (i) Open and (ii) Closed sessions. In an open session,, the progress reports of different projects implemented were presented by respective project coordinators whereas the financial report was presented by the treasurer Mr. Sunil Shakya.

The respective speakers along with their presentations were:

  • Dr. Surendra K. Shrestha (Member Secretary, Executive Director): Organizational achievement, annual progress  and forthcoming action programs of SAHAS Nepal
  • Mr. Tanka Gautam (Program Coordinator, Okhaldhunga) : Progress reports of LIFT, HMRP, Suspension Bridge, Scholarship and NFSIP Project
  • Ms. Sita Devi Biswokarma (PAF Program Coordinator): Progress reports of PAF Programme
  • Mr. Anuj Pradhan (District Project Coordinator, Okhaldhunga): Progress reports of Right to Food and Biofuel Project
  • Mr. Dipesh Neupane (Project officer, Lalitpur): Achievement, Outcome and Impact of PIGAISF Project
  • Ms. Srijana Dhakal (Project Officer, Rasuwa): Progress reports of SALS project
  • Mr. Krishna Raj Dhakal (ELLEP Project Coordinator): Achievement, Outcome and Impact of ELLEP I Phase and progress reports of ELLEP Phase II
  • Mr. Saban Shrestha (CEFALS Program Coordinator): Progress reports of CEFLAS II Phase and IFCO Projects
  • Mr. Sunil Shakya (Treasurer): Yearly Budget Overview of SAHAS Nepal

 After the end of the open session, the AGM has reviewed its programme activities and put forward the valuable suggestions and feedbacks. In the close session, Dr. shrestha presented on the forthcoming action and future plan. Similarly, Mr. Shakya presented the indicative budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The floor was opened for discussion to review and provide suggestions on the proposed future programs. Henceforth, the reviewed activity reports and budget were approved by the General Members and set the future plan of action with its executive board, general members, and staff members representing its various programmes and projects.

In addition, three new policies (Environmental Policy, Child Protection Policy and Anti Corruption Policy) were endorsed and approved by the Executive Committee, Board Members and general members. Furthermore, a new auditor was also approved by the Board and General Members. Valuable suggestions for effective implementation of the organizational programs in future were also given by the members.

Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Brahma Dhoj Gurung and he applauded the initiative of SAHAS Nepal. Ms. Sati Devi Shrestha, the chairperson of the organization concluded the programme sharing her experiences and feelings with appreciation of programs and plans of the organization for the following year. She acknowledged the team and all members for their contribution on building SAHAS Nepal as one of the successful NGO in Nepal.
