On 31st of August 2016, German Embassy Team: Program Officer Ms. Franziska, Ms. Kabita Thapa and an intern visited Malta VDC of South Lalitpur for monitoring and evaluation of project activities. SAHAS Nepal implemented a short term project entitled “Livelihood improvement of rural farmer of Malta VDC through promotion of organic farming and income generation activities” between May 2015 to Jan 2016. The monitoring team was accompanied by SAHAS Nepal central office staffs: Executive Director Dr. Surendra Kumar Shrestha, Project Coordinator Mr. Dipesh Neupane and Ms. Shradha Shrestha.
During field visit, the team observed integrated farming system consisting of plastic house for vegetable cultivation, pig farming and fish pond, cash crops etc. A total of 164 households are benefited with new and improved agriculture technologies for diversifying income source and improving livelihood. Also, Ms. Franziska inaugurated drinking water system, renovated after earthquake. The community interaction gave clear insights of economic and social changes (advocacy and empowerment) resulted in women and small farmers group after the project implementation. The women group expressed their gratitude to the project team, which help ignite social and economic changes in Malta community.
