SAHAS participation in Rara National Conference “Climate Change and Environmental Threats: Protecting Lives and Livelihoods of Mountain People”

In total six participants have participated on behalf of SAHAS Nepal on Rara National Conference “Climate Change and Environmental Threats: Protecting Lives and Livelihoods of Mountain People” held in Rara Mugu on 30-31st October. Four members from SAHAS Nepal including Mr. Brahma Dhoj Gurung (Board Member), Mr. Sunil Thapa (Environment Officer), Mr. Suman Shrestha (Project Officer), Mr. Chuda Mani Pahadi (Team Leader) and two local members of Chhayanath Development Society (CDS) Mugu, Mr. Devi Singh Rokaya (President) and Mr. Tshering Gyalbo Lama (Secretary) attended the conference.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (MoSTE) and the Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC). Around 200 national and international participants’ including officials of the MoSTE, Constituent Assembly (CA) members from Karnali zone, environment experts, policy makers and stakeholders participated in the conference. More than fifteen papers were presented during the conference by expertise. The conference focuses on the climate change impact on high mountains and its mitigation & adaptation measures. The conference was concluded with a nine point Rara declaration.
